WHY YOU STILL NEED SUNSCREEN DURING THE QUARANTINE?
Many of us are still working from home or spending the majority of our time in the house due to the quarantine. Although some states are starting to lift the restrictions people are still afraid to go back to their normal lifestyles especially because there wasn't any solution to end the virus. We feel protected indoors from the virus and many other things but one thing that doesn't protect us indoors is sun damage. I started wearing sunscreen 2 years ago. For years I believed sunscreen wasn't needed. I believed my melanin had layers to protect me from getting sunburn. I never heard any of my family members complain about sunburn so I thought “oh we chocolate our skin can handle it.” I was wrong because sunburn doesn't discriminate and our melanin can't protect us from skin cancer. Everybody needs to apply sunscreen, especially during the quarantine.
Only 10% of U.S adults use sunscreen daily, and almost half (47%) never wear sunscreen - PR News Wire
Here is why you need to apply sunscreen while indoors:
Sunscreen prevents/reduces your chances of Skin Cancer:
When you're chilling on the balcony or by your window trying to get some sun light and fresh air your skin is being exposed. The UVA rays will cause the wavelengths to penetrate through the windows in your house. If you didn't know UVA rays are what damage your skin and cause cancer. I know for me I have multiple windows in my house so I wake up to the bright sun shining in my face. I like it because it wakes me up in the morning and the sunlight gives me so much energy but I still have to be aware of my skin.
Sunscreen protects your skin from aging:
Who doesn't want to look young even when your age starts to catch up on you! Listen I’m trying to be out here looking like Halle Berry or my grandma because I swear it doesn't look like they age at all. As we start to age our bodies start to age. This is why it's important to put in the extra time to take care of yourself. Too much sun exposure can cause your skin to suffer and age. The elastic in our skin that keeps our skin firm will start to breakdown and can cause wrinkles and age spots.
Sunscreen keeps your skin tone even:
Applying sunscreen will help to prevent those dark spots and hyper-pigmentation allowing your skin to appear smooth and less textured. So if your daily skincare routine doesn't include sunscreen what are you doing? When I started applying sunscreen daily I seen a major difference. Applying sunscreen allowed me to add that extra layer of protection to my skin causing my dark spots to reduce tremendously.
What Sunscreen to use?
Always wear sunscreen with SPF 30 because the higher the SPF the sunlight will block more of the UVB rays which will reduce your chances of getting sunburn. I have been using Black Girl Sunscreen for the past 2 months and to be honest I was so happy to support because it's owned by a sister! The performance really made me believe in this product. To wear sunscreen daily and underneath my makeup, I want to be comfortable. I don't want to feel like I’m applying a thick application. When I apply black girl sunscreen it’s smooth and lightweight. It feels like a moisturizer and it doesn't leave me looking like a casper because it blends in with my skin avoiding the white cast look. It gives me a glow leaving my skin looking healthy and hydrated. Shout out to the ingredients!!
